Hair Affair

One Saturday I was at Jean Yip, trying to get my hair into shape. It had been ages since I got them trimmed. Back at home I was feeling particularly blue and I just thought of pampering myself. So just after my session with New York Skin Solutions I got into the Jean Yip outlet.

Since this was my first visit to any hair salon in Singapore, I particularly told them that I need a simple hair cut. After a session of threading - eyebrow plucking, a few weeks back, I wanted to play it safe. Threading is a very Indian concept and here they actually pluck the eyebrows. It is not painful and they make you quite comfortable by making you lie on a comfortable bed with pillow below your knees and good music playing in the background. The only problem was that this session had resulted into a very Chinese look for me, a thin high line. And I paid 25S$ almost 15 times what I would have paid in India.

Okay coming back to hair cutting, the pretty girl takes charge and gives me a nice hair wash. It is really very relaxing to have someone wash your hair while you simply relax. Then it was time to cut the hair. I told the pretty girl that I need steps. Mistake one. And I also told her I want flicks at the front to hide my big forehead. Mistake two. Two mistakes! May be I relaxed a bit more than required.

The step cut here means a zig zag cut. Not like the one that I used to regularly get back home. There steps means layers. This one is more Chinese. And the flicks, they are not to be seen. My hair was made short. And then she ironed them straight. My hair tends to curl at the bottom, but after her skilful ironing they were really straight and zig zag.

I was completely dissatisfied. But then when I showed it to Anand he assured me that it looked very trendy. He also added that I was looking like the local girls. I am not sure if it was to be taken as a compliment, I still liked the trendy part. But the very next day the straight hair became wavy again. The flicks couldn’t be made out and my hair looked scanty, as one of my friend pointed out in office. This after a 50$ haircut!

Now, am planning to grow them and get my original style back when I visit India. These adventures have made me realise that there are so many things and people that I had taken for granted. Now I miss my hair stylist and beautician for simply understanding me and my looks.
