Feeling at home in Singapore!

Singapore with mum and dad

We have been having quite a good time here. Mum and Dad arrived in Singapore on Sunday. There flight was delayed due to bad weather and it landed an hour late. We were excited about their visit and went to the airport ahead of the scheduled arrival time, impatiently waiting for them at the airport. Mum who is travelling international for the first time was also in good physical condition to our surprise. Like me she suffers from motion sickness and we were worried about her. And I was also thinking that she may not get to enjoy the inflight service of Singapore Airlines which I love so much. And after much waiting we see Mum and Dad nicely walking towards the belt and we were happy to see Mum perfectly fine.

To avoid her sickness and mine we took the MRT back home. And both were liking Singapore as they got to see it from the MRT and around MRT. Infact they felt more at home than in Pune because everywhere they turned they could see similar faced people. Back home in Pune we do stand out from the crowd because of our Manipuri looks.

Here when we travelled and were sitting across them in the train they realized how perfectly we merged with the crowd. They also liked our condo, especially the master bedroom which has a raised up wooden flooring creating two beautiful layers of waves.

And the nest part that they liked about Singapore is that we get everything Manipuri here, varities of herbs, greens, vegetables and fruits. I could recognize most of the things in the vegetables and fruits section in the super markets here, but I wasn’t sure of their usage or names. A faint smell of some leaves, or look of a vegetable would bring back memories of Manipur and Manipuri food. Mouth watering yeah. So, I was looking forward to mum exploring them and giving them names and turning out interesting authentic Meitei recipes.

And you know what mom found in the super market ahhhmmm it might not mean anything to many of you but for the Manipuri readers let me put it down Pulai, Loklai, Tengnav, Yongchak, Yenam, Dasakusa, Phakpai, Laphutharo, laphu, haijom, nobab and many more. Right I can’t even remember all the names. But believe me, right now this mouth watering smell of food coming out of the kitchen is forcing me to say adios. More on the sight seeing part later. Food calling and it would be a crime to keep it waiting. Chao!

Selamat Datang

Petronas at Day

It was a short and sweet trip to KL last weekend. Did lots of small things along some of the big things. Me and Bem set off for KL around 12:30 Friday midnight and to our surprise reached early by 4:30 in the morning to our friends place in KL.

After some two three hours sleep we were woken up by the small fisty banging on the door, and it was Aaditya wanting to meet Ana and Missi as he calls Anand and me. And he was rather surprised to find two missis, me and bem.

After much catching up over tea we all set off for Petronas, the twin towers. After going gaga over the beauty of the twin towers we had a good lunch of Chicken Peri Peri at Nando’s at the basement of the Twin towers. This heavy lunch was followed by some shopping in Bukit Bintang. We picked up some tops of local design and make at throw away prices.

The dinner was Masala Dosas in an Indian Restaurant called James at KL Sentral. After reaching home we saw Johnny Gaddar. Good movie.

The next day Bem and me set off early for KLCC again and once again missed getting the tickets to the sky bridge. And for the third time I was not able to get to the sky bridge as we were late by an hour. So if you are visiting KL and wish to see the Petronas Twin towers and visit the amazing skybridge connecting the twin towers you must make it before 10 in the morning.

We then went to Petaleng Street also known as China Town. But unlike china town in Singapore this one is hoarded with fakes of all the big brands of the world. Jimmy Choo, Gucci, Louis Vuitton, Guess, Burberry, Tods, Prada and so on. With my eye for details I found them to be just what they were FAKE. So, we ended up buying nothing.

Petronas from KL Tower

KL Tower

Our next stop was KL Tower, we hailed a cab and reached KL tower. On reaching the top of the tower we realised that it was quite smoggy and we couldn’t site most of the landmarks as per the recording that was playing in our ears. We posed with the Petronas some more, everywhere you go in KL you will only notice the Petronas standing tall among the other buildings.

We took the mono rail ride till KL Sentral. Lunch was a take away from food court in KL Sentral at home. Since we all were feeling quite lazy after the lunch and cane juice we thought of just relaxing for sometime with Bhool Bhollaiya. Another good movie!

The evening was reserved for a visit to KL eye more popularly known as Eye on Malaysia. This was high on my list as it was added only at the beginning of this year as one more attarction in the ‘Malaysia Truly Asia’ programme and was not there during my last visit to KL.

Eye on Malaysia gave a spactacular view of the KL city, although there was nothing much around the city at night except for KL Tower and Petronas on the right hand side. But the night view of Petronas is very dramatic and beautiful like two big jewels. So, we decided to visit Petronas after KL eye and have dinner at KLCC only.

KL Eye

Petronas at night

The twin towers looked amazing and we got some nice pictures of the towers with Amol’s Camera. There is something very attractive about the two towers at night. Beautifully lit up like millions of solitaire diamonds, it emits a sort of positive energy and is very soothing to the soul and eyes. You can spend quite an evening watching the beautiful fountain dancing on different tunes under the shadow of the two towers.

After dinner of pasta at the food court at KLCC we went back home. The next day Me, Neelum and Bem chatted for a long time and played with Aaditya before it was time to leave for Singapore. After a good lunch of varan bhaat, we said good bye to Neelum and set off for Singapore.

Exploring Singapore with Sis

Butterflies on flowers

Butterfly on red flower

Have not been finding time to post anything. Sister is here and we are having a good time chilling out together. I am extremely enjoying myself, exploring Singapore with her, showing off this city where I have been staying for the last 10 months. What she likes about Singapore is the greenery and she immediately started comparing it with HongKong, Beijing and Manila, cities she visited recently. She found Hongkong to be a vertically built concrete jungle. She found the girls in Manila to be more beautiful than here and girls from other cities of China classy.

So far we have taken the famous Sentosa tour, third for me. But this time around I got to see the Butterfly and insect park (picture). we enjoyed the Cable car ride and clicked lots of snaps of each other. Then on Tuesday we checked out some electronics at Funan mall, applied for Malaysia Visa. I am excited about visiting KL once again and also about seeing little Aaditya there.

Hope to do some good shopping although I am banned from sopping by Anand. But anyways window shopping is also fun, I’ll simply enjoy Neeulm and Bem’s shopping. Having said that let me tell you, yesterday I ended buying a wrap just because Bem said it was really a good piece. I trust her taste. So, looks like it will be difficult to hold back myself after all.
